At MYPAS, we offer two types of Counselling:
Community Counselling
Good for young people aged 12-18 who don’t want school involved or to be aware, and are ready to talk about their lives, make changes and improve their mental and emotional health.
Uses a mix of talking and other tools to support change.
Sessions can be at MYPAS offices or be arranged in various settings around Midlothian or East Lothian, including in school.
School Counselling
Based in schools but for ANY young person aged 10-18 who wants to explore their feelings and wants to improve their mental and emotional health.
Uses a mix of talking and other tools to support change.
Sessions can be in school or in other suitable venues, including MYPAS offices.
Drop-in sessions held weekly in all High Schools. Young people can request drop-in
East Lothian School Counselling
In East Lothian, all referrals for the school counselling service should always be made via the guidance teacher at your school (head teacher if in primary school).
In all high schools young people can request to see a counsellor for a 15 minute drop in before they make up your mind about counselling.
This can enable them to find out what is counselling is and to find out about other services available at MYPAS.
If they are unable to go via their guidance teacher or are not attending school, them or someone on their behalf can make a direct referral to MYPAS as long as they have the young person’s permission to do so.
This can be done via telephone call (0131 454 0757), email (referrals@mypas.co.uk), or via the referral route on the website.
If you want to discuss anything prior to making a referral, please contact James Kelly, Service Manager at MYPAS – Tel: 0771 009 54 74 or email: james.kelly@mypas.co.ukappointments from MYPAS staff.
